Installing NETMF Framework on Linux

I have been given a Netduino 3 WiFi and I’m keen to use it for something, but I develop mainly in Linux and I’d like to keep dong so if possible.

I have read this topic: Developing on linux using Monodevelop and it seems that I should be able to use Linux. I’ve already installed MonoDevelop and the MicroFramework extension.

I still need to install the NETMF framework itself. There are various possible options that present themselves when searching, but I’m not sure which are relevant and up-to-date.

Is what I want to do possible (and if so, what is the correct method), or should I just jump to Windows for this one project?
