I saw the documentation on the 74hc595, but didnt see anything in the documentation on input shift registers? Is that just something that has not been added yet?
Support for this chipset has not been implemented at the moment.
It should be easy to add if you feel up to it. We would welcome a contribution to the library.

Yeah, it probably is. I was looking at the source for it last night.
I will take a crack at it.
